A Nifty Needlecase
So I'm still playing around, trying to make this work.
In the last few years I've had the policy that, when it comes to presents, it's the thought that counts. So instead of buying things for people that they don't really need, I've been trying to make little things, which are personalised, fun to make, cheaper, (ideally) useful and save that last minute dash to the shops to wander around, feeling amazed at how empty your mind has suddenly become. On the downside they're time consuming and often quite useless! But I still think it's a good idea.
I must admit, though, that I haven't been particulary conscientious in implementing this plan. This week was a rare success, when I had a flash of inspiration and decided to make Miss Eliza a needlecase. This, incidentally, led me to discover the lovely blog simplesparrow.typepad.com which I spent a lot of time browsing for beautiful things! Anyways, this is how it turned out:
I made it out of some scraps of Japanese quilting material that I had left over from making hats. It ties closed with a pale pink ribbon and button.
On the inside it has 2 pages of green felt. One page has a little pocket for thread and there's a magnet sewn into the back cover, so if you're just putting your needle down for a sec it doesn't go astray.
